What to know about Long Island
Long Island is a hidden gem in the southern Bahamas known for its secluded beaches, turquoise waters, and untouched natural beauty. With powder-soft sand, swaying palms, and vibrant marine life, it’s a paradise for fishing, diving, snorkeling—or simply doing nothing at all. Charming cays, welcoming locals, and great restaurants create the perfect setting for a peaceful, unforgettable escape.
Weather
Warm, Breezy, and Always Changing
While generally warm in the Bahamas, there are days that will feel cooler. A cold day may be 70-75F in the shade. Long Island has the added advantage of being in the Southern Chain of the Bahamas and is generally a few degrees warmer than Northern Bahamas – and much warmer than Florida!
One of the nice things about the length of Long Island is that you can take a drive out of the rainy area and usually find sun at the other end of the Island.

Medications & Health
Health Essentials & Local Care
Bring your own supply of medications (they may not have any on the Island), small first aid kit and any personal items of this nature.
The closest Community Health Center is located in Simms (10 minute drive north from Seaclusion). It is fairly well stocked and can treat and handle most small medical issues (if the Doctor is not there that day, they can contact him) but anything serious will require you to travel to Nassau or better yet, back home. Make sure you carry travel medical insurance.
Power Outages
What to Know When the Lights Go Out
Paradise is not always perfect. Be prepared for the occasional power outage. The Island’s power reliability is much better as of recent now that a 3rd large diesel generator has been installed by the Government. However, there are still times when there will be outages which generally last for only a few minutes (but sometimes longer so be forewarned). Seaclusion does not have a backup generator as these have their own set of problems (e.g. salt air, lack of parts & trained maintenance personnel).
Generally the outages are at night (e.g. maintenance of the Island Diesel Generators that supply power for the island). When the power is out, everything goes down. Seaclusion has flashlights / head lanterns, etc. but if this is a concern to you, bring your own personal light source. Also, when the power does go out, the one ATM on the island will not work, nor will your merchant’s credit card machine (so bring ample cash with you). Seaclusion does have a back up battery unit for Starlink but it will only last for approximately 20 minutes.
